In my classroom, I keep a pad of paper close by so I can keep an ongoing log, recording both positive and negative behaviors of students. I refer to it as needed. Of course, it is important for teachers to consistently apply consequences based on negative behavior, but it’s equally important to regularly reward good behavior.
That said, I believe cooperative groups lead to better communication among students, more interactive hands-on learning, and students taking greater responsibility for their learning. THE SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS/PRACTICES The science process skills or practices as mentioned in the Next Generation Science Standards, basic and integrated, are transferable abilities and scientific skills that mirror the behavior of scientists in the field. 3 In this guidebook, and in general when discussing most primary elementary grades, I tend to emphasize the basic process skills.
