In my classroom, I keep a pad of paper close by so I can keep an ongoing log, recording both positive and negative behaviors of students. I refer to it as needed. Of course, it is important for teachers to consistently apply consequences based on negative behavior, but it’s equally important to regularly reward good behavior.

That said, I believe cooperative groups lead to better communication among students, more interactive hands-on learning, and students taking greater responsibility for their learning.
